Coursera: Model Thinking Course

I finished recently the course Model Thinking that have the professor Scott Page as instructor. This course help us to understand a lot of models and, shows a way to become a better thinker.

The main idea of this course is to do a rapid overview of a lot of mathematical models to help us to understand the world. For example, on this course I learn about models like:

  • Segregation, Sorting and, Peer Effects;
  • Standing Ovation;
  • The Identification Problem;
  • Decisions Models;
  • Spatial Choice Models;
  • Linear, Behavior, Rule Based and, Categorical Models;
  • Percolation Models;
  • Markov Models;
  • Lyapunov Functions;
  • Urn Models;
  • Networks;
  • Colonel Blotto Game;
  • The Prisoner's Dilemma;
  • Hidden Action and Information.

Yes, this was a huge course with a lot of information. You will need some hours per week to see the classes, do the exercises, do the assignments and, research and review the lack of information you don't know about. But, I need to say that, it was really interesting and exciting. I learn a lot of new information and tools to use on my own research. Of course, this tools need to be improved, but the motivation here are to know the tools. If I need to use some of them, I will study it again deeply.

Nonetheless, the important here is to learn new things. I recommend everyone to learn every time. Never stop, never give up.
